The beginning of the new year brings the with it the hope that we can all better ourselves. Resolutions are made with the intent on fixing the areas of our lives we think need attention, but they are all too often broken once we settle into a daily routine. For 2014, you should resolve to be more energy efficient and eco-friendly, because more and more people are becoming aware of just how much our actions have consequences – both positive and negative – on this planet. There are many ways to be more efficient without much effort, so this can be the resolution that sticks with you throughout the course of the year. Here are a few suggestions for living a more environmentally aware life:
Efficient lighting: Environmentally friendly illumination is an option that everybody will be forced to embrace thanks to new federal guidelines. Instead of traditional light bulbs that simply waste most electricity, invest in LED or CFL bulbs. They will cut down your utility payments and last a very long time.
Go paperless: This is a change that is becoming increasingly common. Do not waste time or money on expensive printers or the supplies required for them. Simply do everything you need to online. For example, most banks and utility providers will now give you the choice of getting statements through the computer. Pay your bills online instead of sending in a check.
Transportation: Try relying less on your car. Instead, find other ways to get to work – walking, biking, public transportation. This will not only help reduce your carbon footprint, but can also be good for your health.
