Green tips for new parents

If you are a new parent, you will have plenty of questions on the best ways to raise a baby. Once that new little person is in your house, there are plenty of steps that can be taken to protect them, yourself as well as the environment. Committing to living a green life means cutting down the waste you produce as much as you can, while also being gentle on yourself and your natural surroundings.

Here are some useful tips any new parent can incorporate into their daily lives to raise their child in an environmentally-friendly household:

  • Cleaning products: Using toxic chemicals to clean up after a baby's mess has harmful effects on both the child's health and the environment. Avoid letting any unhealthy products seep into the atmosphere or your child's lungs and skin by cleaning only with eco-friendly ingredients such as lemon, vinegar and baking soda.
  • Diapers: Avoid throwing away tons of disposable diapers every month by using cloth. By reusing cloth diapers, you will be producing far less waste every time your baby goes to the bathroom. Just be sure to have enough stocked up in the house so you are not running the washing machine several times each day.
  • Feeding: The most green way to feed your baby is to simply breastfeed. This will cut out all of the waste that comes with formula containers, bags and bottles. But if this is not an option for your family, avoid any plastic bottles made with Melamine, PVC and Bisphenol. They can potentially release toxic compounds into the formula.

Even if you are not a new parent, you can still increase your home's energy efficiency by having window films installed by R&J Tinting.
